The Yellow Shirts vs. The Red Shirts

First, we saw anti-government protesters, clad in yellow which is the colour symbolic of Thai royalty, gathered at 2 airports in Bangkok bringing airport operations to a standstill and leaving thousands of tourists stranded. Now we see pro-government supporters, clad in red, gathering in city hall in downtown Bangkok. This development is symbolic of how divided Thailand is today.

Perhaps the question now is not so much whether violence will break out; but how much violence will erupt before the political crisis can be resolved. Already we have seen grenade attacks targeted at the Yellows injuring quite a number of people. Should further violence break out between anti and pro-government supporters, it would only serve to divide Thai society even more and worsen the political crisis.
