Annual festival encourages senior citizens to create bigger social network

Singapore needs to organise more activities to help senior citizens live life to the fullest; be it line-dancing, tai chi, playing drums or simple social gatherings. These activities can help promote active ageing and make senior citizens independent.

Activities should not just cater to the senior citizens but also include the rest of the family and other social networks. These people can play a part to make senior citizens feel accepted. With independent senior citizens, less burden would be put on the working population.

Grandparents' Day on 23 Nov and the Active Agers Awards are ways to remind us not to neglect the elderly in our midst.
